House painting in Reading, MA, inside and out. West Street's historic district leaves paint color alone, so the focus stays on prep and clean lines.
Reading's oldest houses, built from 1650 to 1830, line streets like South, Walnut, Haverhill and Lowell. Old clapboard and window trim on those get scraped, sanded, primed where bare and caulked before any finish coat goes on.
On West Street, swapping clapboard for vinyl would need a Historic District certificate, and the guidelines discourage synthetic siding. Repainting the wood you have doesn't. Inside, we take on wallpaper removal, skim coats and plaster repair in Reading's older rooms.

West Street Local Historic District certificate
Inside Reading's Local Historic District, exterior changes visible from a public way need a certificate from the Historic District Commission before the town issues a building permit. Paint color, storm windows and gutters are excluded, but siding, windows, roofing, outside stairs and roof decks are reviewed. [1][2]
Construction hours bylaw
Reading's bylaw allows permitted construction from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, with set-up and deliveries from 6:30 a.m. No construction on Sundays or legal holidays. [1]
One statewide building code. Massachusetts uses a single building code for every town: 780 CMR, now in its tenth edition. Your local building department enforces it and issues the permits. source
Dig Safe before digging. State law requires notice to Dig Safe at least 72 hours before digging, not counting weekends and legal holidays. That includes holes for deck footings. Call 811. source
